4 Minute Movies - The Format

 

The idea is a simple one - read out a piece which is under 4 minutes long and tells a story. It can be a poem or a comedy piece or a narrative; the form doesn't matter. You get to perform two pieces in total.

 

You can either perform at one of our live monthly filming sessions [check the website for the exact date, but it's usually the 2nd monday of the month] or provide us a wav file. If we think we can use the material, and you give us your permission, we'll put it on the website or our youtube channel.

 

If you read at the filming session, even if we don't choose to use the material, we provide you with a mp4 recording of your work free of charge at the following session. 

 

All rights remain with the artist.

 

The reason for the emphasis on storytelling rather than a pure open mic is to disencourage the kind of "personal revelation" poetry that bogs down most live nights.

 

We also consider whether short films can be made out of the poems; this is again down to whether the artist approves this.

 

We're also working on two further ideas that will work along side Four Minute Movies, provisionally entitled Confessions and Celebrity Evil. We'll bring you more news on this as the ideas progress.
